Artist Profile: Wim van den Heever
About Photographer Wim van den Heever
Award-winning wildlife photographer Wim van den Heever hails from Pretoria, South Africa. As a full-time professional wildlife photographer, Wim has traveled all over the world to photograph the most beautiful scenes and animals on the planet, from jaguars in the Pantanal to snow leopards in the Himalayas. From the great wildebeest migration in Kenya to the snow monkeys and sea eagles in Japan.
Wim's work has featured on multiple magazine covers and in National Geographic, and he has won numerous category placings in the BBC / NHM Wildlife Photographer of the Year award over the last decade. He has also won recognition several times in Natures Best Photography Awards, the Big Picture Awards, Asferico, and Bird Photographer of the Year.
Wim is a master of his craft and his photography is in high demand. The sheer scope and variety of his work puts him in a different class to most other nature photographers. He has done some incredible underwater photography, capturing the annual sardine run off the coast of South Africa. Above the water, balancing in a boat and battling the wind and the waves and the constant spray of the ocean, Wim has captured some of the most unique shots of Africa's marine life, notably seals, sharks, whales and dolphins. His aerial work hanging out of helicopters and hot air balloons has resulted in some of the most beautiful and unique perspectives on nature from above, many of which are popular as fine art canvas prints for their visual impact.
Above all, Wim's work reflects his deep love for the natural world, his commitment to conservation, and his life-long appreciation for the planet's natural beauty and incredible wildlife.
